Add a Sunspace room

Posted in Home Improvement on June 14, 2018

If you are planning to add a room to the south side of your house and have been considering a sunspace design, here is what you need to know.

Sunspace style rooms are an attractive and practical way to add space to your home. People use these rooms for everything from year-round garden/solariums, to a new kitchen area, to a whirlpool/spa room, to very simply, extra living space.

A sunspace lets you enjoy the seasons, without suffering from temperature extremes. They let the heat of the winter sun in and keep the summer heat out, using insulated windows and a variety of shade and window blind applications to control the sun's rays. According to their manufacturers, some are also designed to act as passive solar heating systems.

Sunspace additions are available in kits for the do-it-yourselfer. Most dealers have installers who'll do the work for you, if you prefer. Remember, the construction of a sunspace is similar to other room additions, and all local building codes (for foundation, footings, electrical and plumbing) must be followed.
